These diagrams illustrate the
progression of ideas for this visitor
center. Programatic spaces are
accounted for in two volumes. They
are then merged together to create
relationship with each other. Its form
then develops by cutting the second
volume in order to create views. A
canopy system is then developed in
order to connect site and building
together.
Viewing Adena
The MT. Horeb Adena Mound Visitor Center is conceived as an architectural framework designed to offer visitors a profound connection to the surrounding landscape. Employing a dual-volume strategy, the building creates a dynamic sequence of spaces that culminate in carefully framed views of the Adena Mound and a nearby horse farm. These designated “portals” serve as focal points, inviting visitors to engage with the natural environment in a meaningful way. The interior of the center is designed to complement this experience, providing spaces for interpretation, reflection, and relaxation. By integrating natural light, materials, and spatial relationships, the building seeks to create a harmonious dialogue between human-made and natural environments. Ultimately, the Visitor Center aims to be more than just a building; it is a destination that inspires curiosity, wonder, and a deeper appreciation for the region.
